Sora Shirai arrived at the Tokyo Olympics as something of a stealth weapon because few people realized just how good he is. Winning the Best Trick contest at Prague’s Mystic Cup in 2018 gave the world a glimpse at just what level the Japanese skaters were working on. Barely anyone in the world is doing 180 ollies into fakie 5-0 on handrails, where even then you have the possibility of several attempts if your luck holds out. But nobody - nobody else - is doing them with enough consistency to throw them down in a contest except him. That’s only one of his signature tricks: that is how unique Sora Shirai’s talent is.
